So, I've been contemplating on how to handle our website Calendar.
Our in-game calendar will be our main area for editing and updating without a doubt. I'm pretty certain that not all members would be active on the website itself even though it would be nice to see activity like that. I do hope that everyone would download a calendar broker that would alert them of events. I'm guilty myself for forgetting the calendar existed on WoW! Reason being is that I hope to be able to give our community a steady diet of activities to do other than the one Blizzard laid out to us.
The limitation that the Website Calendar is facing is that there is no auto sync to the live server's calendar. Which means if I was to use both, I will have to add in both events manually. The developers have made it clear that they will probably not implement the feature almost indefinitely. Which, seriously I think is silly when the point of the website is to bring everyone together and a live functioning calendar is invaluable in that effort.
Another reason to want the website calendar functioning is because the newsletter that gets e-mailed actually can seed events from the calendar. You'd be able to get a glimpse as to what new posts have been made and what events are coming up from your e-mail.
My thoughts were to forego the built in calendar and use an outside calendar that I would link to the website's navigation bar. I have an add-on to my wow interface that can create iCal files which most other calendar's accept.
Another idea was to connect the calendar directly to our armory page. I still won't get the nice newsletter feed, but it would be accessible to guild members only.
All in all, if you have Wow Armory on your phone, that too is a direct connection to our schedule.
Depending on what we do, a link for the calendar will also appear in our Mumble welcome screen when you log in to chat with everyone.... and I do hope you chat with us ;)
